1. Information We Collect

When you use Binn, we may collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: email address, username/display name, and authentication identifiers.
  • Course materials: PDFs, lecture notes, slide decks, and text files you upload for curriculum and question generation.
  • Usage & Interaction data: user actions within the app, quiz answers, study progress, blocked app configurations, and in-app navigation flows.
  • Telemetry & Session Recordings: user interface interactions (such as taps, screen transitions, and feature usage) and session recordings to identify UX bottlenecks and reproduce technical bugs.
  • Diagnostics & Device data: device model, OS version, app version, network connectivity status, crash traces, and error logs for stability optimization.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Parse and extract study questions, topics, and interactive bite-sized lessons from your uploaded materials.
  • Operate the on-device distraction blocker, alarm verification, and grace period unlock mechanisms.
  • Diagnose app crashes, monitor real-time errors, and analyze UX session replays to improve application reliability and usability.
  • Manage your active subscription status and account access.
  • Provide customer support and send critical service or account notices.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your uploaded materials and account data are stored on secure cloud servers (including Cloudflare R2 object storage and encrypted databases). We implement industry-standard security measures including strict encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and encryption at rest to safeguard your personal data.

4. Data Sharing & Third-Party Service Providers

We do not sell your personal information. We partner with vetted third-party service providers to power essential infrastructure, analytics, and AI features:

  • Product Analytics & Session Replay (PostHog): We use PostHog (hosted on EU cloud servers) to analyze user journeys, capture error logs, and record app sessions to help us detect visual glitches and improve user experience.
  • Crash Diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics): To record native fatal/non-fatal crash stack traces and diagnose unexpected crashes across various Android and iOS device models.
  • AI & LLM Services: Uploaded course materials are transmitted to AI providers (such as Google Gemini, Mistral AI, OpenAI, and Cloudflare Workers AI) strictly for extracting study summaries and generating question banks. Your uploaded materials are never used to train public AI foundation models.
  • Subscriptions & Billing (RevenueCat / App Stores): To securely handle in-app purchase receipts and subscription validation without directly processing or storing your raw credit card numbers.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Cloudflare (for edge storage, waitlist databases, and API hosting).

5. Data Retention & Erasure

We retain your account information and uploaded materials for as long as your account remains active.

Account Deletion: When you delete your account (via the app settings or the website account deletion page), your personal information, authentication credentials, course outlines, and uploaded study materials are immediately and permanently erased from our active databases and cloud storage. Secure disaster-recovery backups operate on a 14-day rolling cycle, after which snapshots are permanently overwritten.

6. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, rectify, port, or request the deletion of your personal data, and to opt out of certain tracking. To exercise any of these rights, you can delete your account directly within the app or contact us via our support channels.

7. Website Analytics Opt-Out

Our website uses privacy-friendly product analytics (PostHog, EU-hosted) with IP masking, Do-Not-Track respect, and masked form inputs. You can opt out of website analytics at any time below — no account or email required:

Website analytics: no choice saved yet

Your choice is stored on this device only. Opting out stops all website analytics capture immediately.

8. Android AccessibilityService API

Binn uses the Android AccessibilityService API exclusively to detect when you open applications that you have designated in your blocked list, enabling Binn to display a study intercept screen over distracting apps.

Important: We do NOT use the AccessibilityService API to collect, store, or transmit your personal screen content, keystrokes, messages, or text typed in other apps. App detection operates entirely locally on your device for digital wellbeing and focus enforcement.

9. Notification Access Service

Binn optionally utilizes Android's Notification Access Service (NotificationListenerService) to suppress distracting notifications from blocked apps during active study sessions.

Important: Binn does not read, log, store, or transmit the content or messages of your notifications. The service only checks incoming app package IDs against your local blocklist to dismiss notifications on-device during focus sessions.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any material modifications will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page, and in-app notices will be provided when required by applicable law.

11. Contact Us

If you have questions, feedback, or privacy-related requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please reach out via our contact page or email us directly at support@binn.space.
